YEARS OF THE LISTER D

A century ago, a small stationary engine from Dursley, England went to work on farms and in workshops. One hundred years later, restored examples still run at vintage engine shows.

A TRIBUTE TO A BRITISH CLASSIC

Celebrate 100 Years, Brick by Brick

To mark the Lister D's 100th birthday, we turned it into a 470-piece commemorative building block model you can build at the kitchen table: no fuel, no oil, no tools, just bricks and a clear instruction manual. Made for 2026, the centenary year.

Why the Lister D Matters

Before mains electricity reached the countryside, a farm's power came from small stationary engines, and the Lister D became one of the most important of them all. Compact, reliable and cheap to run, this little 1½ hp engine took over the hard, repetitive work of rural life.

It did the farm's daily choresMilking machines, water pumps, saw benches, sheep shears, root cleaners and turnip cutters. If it needed turning, a Lister D could turn it.
It lit homes off the gridPaired with a generator, it supplied electricity to farmhouses and buildings that the power lines hadn't yet reached.
It barely changed in 38 yearsBuilt from 1926 to 1964 with only small updates. The design was simply right the first time.
It went everywhereAround 250,000 were built and shipped across the world, from British farms to Asia and beyond.

100 Years of the Lister D

1926The first Lister D is assembled in Dursley, Gloucestershire, England, and sold that November.
1930s–1940sThe D becomes a fixture on farms, in dairies and in workshops, powering everyday work before rural electrification.
1948Production moves from Dursley to a new plant at Wroughton as demand continues.
1964Production ends after 38 years and roughly 250,000 engines.
TodayOne of the most common sights at vintage engine shows, and the engine many collectors start with.
2026The Lister D turns 100. This centenary edition puts the legend on your shelf.

Remember That Sound?

Maybe it was on your grandad's farm, pumping water from the well. Maybe it ran the milking machine every morning, or sat in the corner of the shed, thumping away while you played. If you grew up around a Lister D, you never really forget it.

Bring the Lister D to your benchKeep that unmistakable shape where you'll see it every day: on your workbench, by the toolbox, or on the shelf in your den. 21 cm of classic engine, ready after an evening of building.
A story to share with the grandkidsBuild it together and tell them what the real one did. They'll remember the afternoon. You'll know the story didn't end with you.
A piece of the centenaryThe first production run is just 100 sets, released in 2026, the centenary year itself. Get yours from the original batch, and years from now you'll be glad you were there for the 100th.
A natural conversation starterPut it in your office, at your club's display table or next to your restored engine. Anyone who knows the Lister D will stop and ask about it.
